An hour from Seoul to the north, behind a checkpoint guarded by soldiers, a special territory begins: the civilian control zone. This six-kilometre-wide strip of land, which runs along the demilitarised zone (DMZ) between the two Koreas, is one of the most monitored and preserved areas in the world. About twenty beekeepers are authorized to work there. The honey they have been extracting from this virgin forest of human trace for 70 years is of an exceptional taste.
